Taking stock of expatriates’ career success after international assignments: A review and future research agenda

This systematic literature review explores studies addressing the objective career success and subjective of company-assigned self-initiated expatriates after their long-term international assignments. Expatriate work is defined as high-density that affects employee learning trajectories. We develop a holistic expatriate framework exploring following questions: 1) What individual impact results from assignments? 2) are antecedents such success? 3) outcomes assignees’ A previously neglected range theoretical perspectives, antecedents, identified. Subsequently, threefold contribution made. First, we extend conceptualization density to unveil differences between general global concepts. Second, identify promising theories have not been utilized in expatriation research, emphasizing context-related chime with specific nature careers. Lastly, suggest an extensive future research agenda.
